about

when the bat leaves its geode abode deep within the cave, it is fulfilling the ages old yearning to become a part of the sky. it, being one of few mammals gifted with airborne capabilities, can only merge with the inky black infinite during the night, as this is the only time the dark leathery wings may be camouflaged against the nocturnal tapestry.

the cave provides a rich pastiche of nooks, hanging stalagmites and protruding stalactites. stones long dislodged from their place in the walls of the abode by ancient seismic events or warm windy inner-sanctuary erosion, lay with their glittery glassy innards exposed to the appreciative bats. rich crystalline purples, silvery translucent whites and blood reds reminiscent of juicy dietary fruits inspire the creatures in the sanctuary and they happily return to this place in gleeful flutter and proud spiraling cascades. a stray moonbeam may find one of the rocks close to the mouth of the cave and remark stellar luminosity amidst the playfully jagged topography.

a midday shower proves no threat to our bats, as they remain dry in their domains, allowing the pleasant smatterings of echoing raindrops to guide their subconscious concerns. in fact, the bats are quite privy to enlightening meditations and introspective scientific insight when uncontrollable forces may be safely observed from their perches.

groups of juvenile bats flutter quietly above the exposed geode formations, building slowly to a rainbow excitement in preparation for a feeding venture. the mosquito gang tunes their individual sonar deployment to the best interest of the group and sets off softly into the night. confident in their abilities (due to a consistent track record coupled with a yet-developed sense of mortality), the bats take loose formation against the backdrop of the row of prevailing oaks and towering sycamores that flank the cave entrance. these outings may result in controversy with neighboring colonies, in frustration at the inevitable competition of circling owls or in elusive maneuvering around the unpredictable outbursts of the invisible st. elmo, but they press on with determination, ready for anything and delighted to encounter it. onward they fly, deeper into the forest. they are cool as f*ck. they are majestic, strong and beautiful. upon returning, they will share stories, playfully tease each other and flirt unabashedly with the giddy and blushing bats with crushes who treat them like warriors.

the sky is as a deity. the bats are strongly scientific and logical. their god is the unity of the cosmos, the black ether, the embroidery that includes the lovely vast infinite emptiness and the glowing exceptions of matter and life. when they fly into the sky, it is not to inhabit it or to glide silently against it but to become it, to merge with forever and the ensuing legends.
